Born in 1981, Burçin Elmas Çubukçu began playing the piano at eight. In 1996, encouraged by her piano teacher Önder Bali, she took up the alto saxophone. While a student at İstanbul Erkek Lisesi she won awards with the school orchestra in the competitions held by the newspaper Milliyet.

At the University of Virginia she studied electronic and electroacoustic music with Matthew Burtner, Stefania Serafin and Judith Shatin, graduating with degrees in both Music and Economics. She went on to complete an MA in Music Technology at the University of York under Tony Myatt, and is currently completing her PhD thesis in Sound Engineering and Design at the Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MİAM), Istanbul Technical University.

Her work centres on improvised music and electronic/electroacoustic composition. She has composed and designed sound for numerous theatre and video works and performs regularly.
